Harry #2

I just got back from Harry's appointment for his EEG and with the neurologist. The good news is that it's nothing major. However, there is definitely something going on in that little head of his.

The EEG showed clear and frequent spikes of abnormal/ seizure activity. The neurologist seems to think that he is showing signs of complex partial seizures with secondary generalization. With the medication, though, he should be perfectly normal and take part in life just as he did before. The only thing he said to watch out for was activities in which he could get injured if he had an incident while participating, such as swimming alone. (Driving was one, too, but I don't think we need to worry about that one.)

Basically, we need to keep a close eye on him for the next several months to make sure that we don't see warning signs of anything more severe. (Though, we don't expect anything to happen, if any of you have contact with him when we're not around and notice anything unusual or notice Harry acting more strangely than normal, let us know!) Otherwise, we'll monitor his medication and get him checked out every 6 months or so. Hopefully, it will be something that he outgrows and we can get him off the medication at some point.

Thanks for your prayers as we get his medicine regulated and make sure that he continues to progress normally. We know that God is looking after him and will take care of him!

Harry #1

To those of you who were at our Sunday School social, and those whom we called, thanks for your prayers. Harry is doing fine. For those of you who weren't there (and to fill in the details) here's what you missed...

The Lord truly had his hand on Harry (and us) tonight (Friday). We have a busy weekend of Little League and The Mom is supposed to work tomorrow (Saturday), so we decided it would be best if we skipped the social. We took the kids to dinner and when we got home, we told them that if they would get ready for bed, we could play a game before bedtime. We were playing Uno Attack. It got to be Harry's turn and he didn't seem to know it. We thought he was being silly or something (since he's the little joker in our family), so we tried to get him to crack, but he really didn't know what was going on. The Dad started grilling him with questions and threatened him with his life that if he was joking, it wasn't funny anymore. He knew where he was and everybody's name, but he couldn't remember what we ate for dinner or what Mike's puppet show at school was about today. He couldn't seem to follow my finger with his eyes, and that's when I got really concerned. Things progressed until he wasn't responding at all and his eyes looked vacant and staring at nothing in particular.

We got him to the hospital and that's when it really became evident that God was looking after us. About that time, our Sunday School class was praying at their social and he started to come around. A good friend of ours happen to be the triage nurse in the ER and she "expedited" the process of getting Harry checked out. (Basically, she moved Harry to the front of the line.) The Mom knew another nurse on duty, so between the two of them things moved about as fast as they could. Harry had blood work drawn and a CT scan. Our good friend (and pediatrician) and the ER doctor checked everything out. The blood work is fine and the CT looked fine.

Harry is feeling fine now and the doctor said that if he feels up to it and we're okay with it, he can participate in his opening day game and activities for T-ball. We'll see how that goes. We have anti-seizure medication to give him until we know more. At this point, we don't know if the medication will be long-term or not. Harry is scheduled for an EEG at 11:00 Monday and then will go see a neurologist for further treatment. We are anxious to find out what's going on.

Now, some history... We decided to reward the boys for good report cards by taking them out of school early for Diadeloso yesterday. When The Mom picked them up, Harry was complaining of a headache and was laying down just outside his classroom. The Mom gave him some Tylenol and he slept on the way to Baylor. By the time we had finished lunch, he was back to his normal self. He rode a horse and played football and did the blow up obstacle course among other things. Looking back now, though, we highly suspect that he had a seizure yesterday (Thursday) at school. Though we weren't there, the aftermath looked much the same and Harry's teacher mentioned that she called on Harry and he didn't respond, which is not typical for Harry.

We appreciate all the prayer and the offers to help with the kids (and our friends for taking Mike with them). Please pray that Harry will not have any more seizures and that we and the doctors can make good decisions about his treatment.

We'll keep you posted as we know more!

Hard Drive Technology

I think the engineers who came up with this techology must have grown up with Schoolhouse Rock. Doesn't the bit remind you of the bill (but only a bill)?

Fun with maps!

This is really cool. Google already had a really cool new map tool. Now it's gotten better- with satellite pictures! Check out this map of my next house. Then just click the satellite link in the top right to see the corresponding satellite image.

The New House

By the way, I find it interesting that the U.S. Capitol is obscured (I assume for security reasons) while the White House and the Pentagon are not. How do I get them to obscure my current (and future) house?
